Why Are The Costs of Maintaining My Landscape Continuing to Rise?

Why Are The Costs of Maintaining My Landscape Continuing to Rise?

Oct 2025 | Native Edge Landscapes

The simple answer: Rising labor and material costs compounded by Colorado’s ever growing regulatory environment have made it impossible to absorb all of the increased operational expenses without adjusting prices. The rising costs of running a professional landscaping business is a nationwide issue, made worse by Colorado’s regulatory environment.

National Level

On a national level the landscaping industry is facing significant challenges from a severe labor shortage, which has forced companies to increase wages over recent years to attract and retain skilled and reliable people. Additionally, widespread inflation has driven up both the cost of materials and the cost of living for our team members, and while supply chain disruptions have made the equipment and parts we need to properly care for landscapes more expensive and harder to find.

State Level

These national pressures are compounded by the regulatory environment in Colorado, where the number of business restrictions grew by 7.1% between 2020 and 2023. (One example is the Colorado Family & Medical Leave Insurance Program) Increases in regulations have added to administrative burdens and direct costs for businesses like ours.

How We’re Fighting to Keep Your Costs Down

We’ve worked hard to absorb these increases while maintaining our commitments to quality, safety, and fair compensation for our team members. We’re not simply passing costs along. We’re implementing meaningful innovations that help manage costs while also delivering more value to our customers and community. Here are a few examples:

  • We’ve adopted more cost effective organic fertilizers and herbicides that are just as safe, effective and environmentally friendly.
  • We’ve deployed mobile technology that enables our crews to identify and address issues faster and more accurately, improving efficiency and preventing problems before they escalate.
  • We’ve strengthened our training programs, which directly translates to even better service delivery, retention of quality team members, and opportunities for those team members to grow.
  • We’ve optimized our scheduling and routing to reduce downtime and fuel consumption.

While these examples cannot completely solve the issue of rising expenses, they do represent our genuine commitment to operational excellence and stewardship—two of our Company’s most important core values.
